Summum Bonum
- But few are the hours this day given to me; therefore let me redeem the time to the fullest profit for the days are evil.
- Let me not think more highly of myself than I ought but rather with sober judgment according to the gift of faith God has given me.
- Let me do everything out of love, and not out of self-interest and may I always be ready for every good work.
- May I not set anything that is base before my eyes, but may I think about that which is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, gracious, excellent and worthy of praise.
- In whatever I do, may I do my work heartily, as for the LORD.
- As any man I meet is my superior in some capacity, may I strive to learn something from everyone.
- Let my weapons of argumentation be queries and humble assertions rather than dogmatic proclamations and may I avoid quarreling.
- May God be my sovereign and may I submit to all rulers and authorities established by Him.
- May God's approbation be my chief aim and not the esteem of the world.
- May the Word of God alone be the sole arbiter of my conscience.
- Let me not neglect the means of grace, especially private prayer and meditation, nor suffer those in my care to do so.
- As the head of my family, let me stir up those who are lazy, and train those who are weak, so that all will be equipped properly for service to God.
- Let me strive to make every Biblical admonition a personal law of living.
- May I avoid curiosity, and all inquiry into things that do not concern me.
- May I love my wife and not be embittered against her.
- May I always honor my Father and Mother and endeavor not to uncover their nakedness before others.
- May I never enter into an acquaintance without the intention of telling them about the Gospel.
- Let me honestly evaluate the truth that may lie in any criticism I receive.
- Let me never be false or mean in my dealings with others but let me show perfect courtesy and gentleness toward all people.
- May I regard older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, in all purity.
- Let me do nothing out of a motive of revenge.
- May I not endeavor to obviate or answer another's sin by my own sin.
- May I not be such a one as would rather appear to know than to be taught.
- Let me not engage in filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are always out of place, but instead let me be full of thanksgiving.
- Let no corrupting talk come out of my mouth, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
- May I speak evil of no man unnecessarily and all the good I know of everyone.
- Let me not abstain from the seasonable reproof of sin out of a shrinking fear to give offence or a selfish regard for reputation.
- Let me never allow any desire in my heart, which I cannot in faith offer up to God by prayer.
- May God keep my wishes from growing into willings, my willings from becoming fault-finding with His providences.
- May I trust in the Lord with all of my heart and lean not on my own understanding.
- May I not seek to obtain that which is good in itself on my own terms, rather than patiently using the means that God has appointed.
