Life's Clock

The clock of life is wound but once,
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
At late or early hour.

To lose one's wealth is sad indeed:
To lose one's health is more:
To lose one's soul is such a loss
As no man can restore.

The present only is our own,
Live, love, toil with a will—
Place no faith in "tomorrow"—for
The clock may then be still.

"Man's relationship to God is not limited to the specifically religious and cultic sphere; man is also related to God in the political, social, cultural, and economic spheres of his existence in this world. In other words, man's relationship to God is inseparable from his relationship to everything else."

  • Faith never knows where it is being led, but loves and trusts the One who is leading.
  • Many times, like Abraham, we are called to accept concrete losses for abstract hopes of the future.

The SMARTER Goal-Setting Framework

E - EXCITING
R - RELEVANT
The issue of faith or unbelief is never decided by the quality of the evidence, but by the state of the heart.

Other Gospels

  • As long as we live in this world, we will be in between what we are and what we want to be.
  • People will always grasp for what gives them something now and costs little (false gospels), rather than something which gives them something later and cost much (the real Gospel).

  • Churches make the same mistake as economists in reverse: economists see people as only material, not spiritual; the church sees people as only spiritual, not material.
  • Materially rich societies think they can do, fix, or solve everything.

"solo Scriptura"

If we think we have discovered something new in Scripture, it is probably not true, and it is probably not a new error either.

When you do anything in tech, you are either contributing to success long term, or creating technical debt.

FutureWAN'18: Packet Pushers

  • There is no temporary. All things are permanent. Do it right the first time.
  • QoS doesn't really work; a better solution is performance-aware routing over multiple circuits.
  • Hacks are often free. Yes, "free" as in a free puppy.
