discovering chess openings

There are two questions you should ask yourself for each move you are about to play. These are:
1) How does this move affect the center?
2) How does this move fit in with the development of my other pieces and pawns?

Ask yourself some questions before playing "preventative" pawn moves in the opening. Is there really time to play this move? Could you survive without it? Does it create further weaknesses?

Chess is a very materialistic game.
