“How to Know You are In”
Sermon, Dr. Rayburn
- text: 1Jn 5.6-13
- The water and the blood refers to the bookends of Christ’s ministry: His baptism and his crucifixion.
- Knowledge of one’s salvation creates an inexplicable peace in one’s heart and mind. John teaches us that we can possess this peace.
- Assurance comes in different measures. Indeed, one can have salvation while not knowing it—like looking for your hat while it is on your head.
- John doesn’t want us to guess or assume our salvation—he wants us to know.
- We should concentrate not on what we have done for Christ, but what Christ has done for us.
- We can bear many things if only we know for sure that we will live with Jesus in a life of bliss.
